As the Moodbootleggers we have only been established since June 2011.
We consist of Cyber Ninja,DJ Sweet and myself. I've known both guys for a few years but they
are buddies from way back when!
Ninja is a wicked producer and makes some real dirty dark drum and bass, but both myself and
Sweety feel the lighter liquid side and have influenced him into this.
Having just listened to 'Addicted to your Way' your sound is very different from
traditional liquid drum and bass, was this planned?
Haha, nothing we make at Just Cause is ever planned. Both Ninja and Sweet produce.Watching them
develop and make a track is like watching a relay race lol. They really do
compliment each other in the studio though and I just add the final finishing touch with my
vocals to bring the track to life.We seem to have a soulful chilled sound which has attracted
many labels globally to take an interest in us in a very short timespan.
'Addicted to your Way' was recorded on the Thursday evening and by the Saturday morning
had already been signed to Liquid Brilliants a large and well respected Label from Russia.
Have you always just been a vocalist in Drum and Bass?
I actually only started out four years ago as a session singer, and had featured on many hip hop, trip hop
and even bassline tracks before I decided to try a solo career of my own.
As it happened I began to make dance tunes which were very much appreciated in the Rave
scene especially in London, which led to many appearances and sets being performed at events down
there following my album 'Healing of the Nation' which was released at the beginning of 2011.
So what can we expect musically from Sass in the future?
Well the liquid drum and bass vibe is going so well at the moment. Also the fact I adore singing that style pretty
much means I'm focussing on this for the distant future. We have had another track called 'Soul Explosion'
signed by NexGen an awesome label based in Washington D.C. which is going to be released on vinyl and
hopefully a campus tour over there in 2012 will follow. Another track called 'No Regrets' has been signed
to Soul Brothers in Germany, which has a release early in 2012. My vocals have been used on a House track
called 'Touch your Soul' by Jebar on Liquid Brilliants also with a 2012 release date.
Wow looks like 2012 is year of the Sass ! haha.
What do you do in your spare time?
Well from being a teenager my ambitions have always been to be a singer or a radio presenter.
So for the last seven months I have had my own prime time online radio show on Nu-Rave.com.
Now its one of the top three listened to shows on there and I'm getting quite a following of listeners.
I was also voted third in the Best Radio Show/Presenter category in the Nu-Rave Awards in late 2011.
Not bad for a newcomer is it!.
Any advice to any budding vocalists out there?
I remember my careers officer telling me when I was fifteen to remove my head from the clouds
and choose a proper profession as my ambitions to be a singer were just dreams.Well look at me now.
I am proof if you want it bad, and you work hard for it, no matter how long it may take the dreams
can indeed come true.
Just be yourself, don't try to mimic another artists style, be a pleasure to work with in and out of the studio
and always keep it real!....It's worked for me!
The third installment of the immensely popular Mixtape series from Cyber Ninja, this time focusing on the extremely talented MC Franz Von.
Jamaican born Sheffield rapper Franz rides effortlessly on any beat, a true MC and not only has Hip Hop tracks dropping but also has signed Drum & Bass tracks due to come out on Just Cause as well as the mighty American D&B label NexGen.
Nayben first dropped the wicked 12" single Honour Killing at the public and now it's time for the long awaited album Killer Iller.
Collaborations on this awesome album include No Pretense, Franz Von, Sass, Disorderly and heavy weight Drum & Bass vocalist David Boomah best know for the huge ShyFx track - On The Run.
